WHAT ARE DENTAL BRIDGES?
Bridges are fixed prosthetic replacements and are made in situations when the patient suffers from one or more missing teeth but at the same time has a number of teeth which can be carriers and support the entire bridge. Bridges, as well as dental crowns, are made in our dental laboratory.

When is a bridge the right solution for you?
A bridge is a right solution when:
- A greater number of teeth are missing
- There is a need to strengthen the natural teeth due to receding gums
- Improving the esthetic appearance of teeth and smile
Thanks to today’s achievements in dentistry, fixed work is possible in toothless jaws.
By installing four or six implants in one toothless jaw, it is possible to create a fixed work or a fixed bridge of 10 or 12 pieces (crowns) where the patient is given a full sense of naturalness and functionality of natural teeth and can normally eat and drink after the work is completed.
Metal-ceramic bridges represent the type of prosthetic work where ceramics are connected with a metal base and today such crowns and bridges are standard in dental prosthetics because of their reasonable prices, excellent properties such as strength and durability, and a solid esthetic component. The metal base provides stability and strength to the teeth and ceramics imitate the shape and color of teeth.
Bridges made entirely of ceramics represent the best solution for perfect esthetics of teeth. Completely ceramic or zirconium bridges with their color, translucency, and transparency (way of deflecting and reflecting light) validate all optical characteristics of real teeth, resulting in a bridge that cannot be distinguished from the natural teeth. E-max and Empress ceramics, which are used in the frontal (front) regions, have a strength three times greater than tooth enamel so the possibility of such bridges cracking is minimal. Metal-ceramic and full ceramic (zircon) bridges, equally functionally meet the needs of patients, but if the patient desires esthetic perfection, then the best choice is a non-metal, zircon bridge that meets the highest standards when it comes to the esthetic dentistry.
WHY WOULD YOU NEED A DENTAL BRIDGE?
Bridges are commonly used when teeth in the dental arch should be replaced or some teeth are very weak, which means the others need to carry them. In order for the dentist to assess this situation and propose making the bridge, it is necessary to come in for an examination during which detailed diagnostics are performed and after this, the doctor can suggest to the patient what the best solution would be.
Book appointmentIn Dental center Štimac, bridges are made of the same material as the crown, since a bridge is made of more members or a greater number of crowns.
Materials for creating bridges are:
- Metal-ceramic
- Non-metal ceramic (zircon, e-max and empress)
In the Dental center Štimac, we use the latest technology and methods for making dental bridges, and the dental laboratory in the polyclinic itself accelerates the process of creation and allows faster modifications if they are necessary.
Bridges are permanent and fixed prosthetic replacements. The term off, in medical terms, refers to the period between 10 and 15 years. The lifetime of dental bridges, as well as crowns, is different in each patient and depends on several factors such as:
- The quality of the material
- The experience and skill of the dentist
- Correctly made bite imprint
- Relation in between teeth
- Regular checkups with the dentist.
In order for the bridge to last as long as possible, it is important to practice daily oral hygiene. For proper oral health, it is recommended to use a toothbrush, dental floss, rinsing water and inter- dental brushes. Regular and proper cleaning of the teeth can impact the duration of prosthetic replacements, including crowns.
In addition, the durability of bridges depends on genetics but also the gums and bones. Over the years, there may be receding of gums and also the bone and that can get to the root or to the mobility of the natural teeth, which is difficult for the dentist to foresee. Regular visits can help the dentist see the changes in time and warn the patient.
The tooth below the crown cannot decay in terms of a cavity but an infection can occur. In the case of an infection and tooth begins to hurt, there are two possibilities. One is to remove the bridge or part of the bridge and start treating the tooth, and the second is to drill the crown on the bridge where the infection is visible, and through it to get to the infection and start treatment.
If there is an infection of the gums, it is very important to visit the dentist as soon as possible to find and to remove the cause of the infection. Most often the patient after an examination receives an antibiotic that calms the infection and there is no need for further treatment.
Our system of work is that all procedures are done under local anesthesia. To be able to perform precise procedures, the patient must be completely calm and relaxed, and this can happen only if they feel no pain.
Thanks to current developments in technology when it comes to dentistry, the patient can be sure that they will get top quality materials and the best procedure that will give the bridge the same strength but also the naturalness of natural teeth.
