Although professionals have worked on removing them, many patients still entertain misconceptions about dental implants, which are completely baseless. Most of them relate to the efficient resolution of this problem that significantly affects the quality of life. Dental implants are a state-of-the-art permanent fixed solution for missing teeth, equivalent to natural teeth in terms of function and aesthetics.
Thanks to advances in modern dentistry, seeing your dentist is no longer necessarily a stressful experience. By using modern techniques and technologies, dentists can now provide patients with painless and comfortable treatments that will restore their confidence and put a smile back on their faces.
Patient satisfaction is a top priority to all professionals working at our Center and is inseparable from the quality of the service we provide on a daily basis. Let’s examine some of the concerns often expressed by our patients in their queries. You may identify with some of them and our guidance may help you make a decision to put a new smile on your face by having dental implants placed. After all, they are all coherently addressed by Dr. Filip Štimac, our Chief Oral Surgeon, in his videos:
Myth 1: Placement of implants is painful
This is a result of the obsolete misbelief that any dental procedure must inevitably be painful. Nowadays, this is very far from the truth. The implantation process is very quick but also painless because we use local anesthesia. It takes only 15 minutes to surgically place one implant. You’ll be back home much sooner than you thought you would!
Myth 2: The body can reject implants
This is one of the greatest fears among the future patients making inquiries with us. The rate of implant rejection is incredibly low – less than 2 %. Implant rejection may be a result of an infection, in which case we will prescribe adequate medications to avoid this. On the other hand, the success rate is somewhere around 98%-99%. The odds are unimaginably good.
Myth 3: A person with deficient bone volume is not eligible for implants
Many patients present with a lack of bone volume in the jaw. This may be a result of physiological resorption of the bone after an extended period of missing teeth, periodontosis or pathological causes such as cysts or granulomas. A person with deficient bone volume may be eligible for implants in many cases, depending on the level of resorption, and we offer several solutions in case of substantial resorption: PRF protocol, sinus lift combined with PRF protocol on the upper jaw, and bone grafting.
To offer you an adequate solution for your lack of bone volume, you will need to be examined by our doctors and consult them. After performing an X-ray diagnostic procedure and clinically examining your teeth, they will suggest a solution that matches your dental situation.
Myth 4: A person with periodontosis is not eligible for implants
A person with periodontosis may be eligible for dental implants. Of course, their oral cavity must be rendered healthy and infection-free before the implantation. This is why our experts will first recommend adequate periodontal therapy. On completion of that therapy, we can proceed to form an implantation schedule. It is important to be aware that periodontitis is a chronic disease that cannot be cured permanently but may be successfully controlled for an extended period of time. Your involvement is essential – you must maintain your oral hygiene at home as instructed by your dentist and appear for a preventive examination once a year.
Myth 5: Once I have implants placed, I no longer need to care about hygiene or visit my dentist
After you have a prosthetic implant placed, you will need to be extra careful about the area where gums come into contact with the prosthesis. Plaque may form in such areas, causing an inflammation of your gums. We often say that whatever you have implanted is sort of a compromise you make to replace your natural teeth, which will require more stringent adherence to your hygiene routines compared to natural teeth. In addition, please remember to visit us once a year to have your prosthetic implants examined and cleaned by a dentist. This will also serve to extend the useful life of your prosthesis and preserve your beautiful smile.
Now, if we have managed to disabuse you of the notion that implants are not the right solution for your missing teeth, we will very much appreciate your visit! If you have any other concerns, we always have been and remain there for you. See you at Nova cesta 3!
